Reactions and Stabilizations
Once bitten, your character is now a werewolf. For those of you unfamiliar with Shiver's werewolves, please scroll down to the 'Wolves of Mercy Falls' section for more info.
As a character's reactions to the cold will vary, a system has been created in order to determine if a character will shift or not. The character will be rated on a 'heat' scale of 1-10 in the following categories:
Season Weather Location Time Spent Bitten Fate
Season: From Late Fall-Early Spring, the character has a much higher
chance of changing than from Late Sprint-Early Fall.
Weather: If its cold, windy, or snowy, the character has a much
higher chance of changing than in a stable condition.
Location: A character in-doors, with heat, is less likely to change than a character outdoors.
Time Spent Bitten: A character who has recently been
bitten is more likely to shift back and forth than a character in the
middle of their bitten-years. However, a character near the end
of their years is also likely to be bitten.
Fate: Based on a dice roll. The lower the number, the less
likely one is to change.
Results:
8-10: No Change
5-7: No Change; Character may feel discomfort
3-4: Change Possible without finding heat soon.
1-2: Change.
Example:
Season Weather Location Time Spent Bitten Fate Late Fall Mild, Wind chill, 40F The Park 4 Weeks [dice=6] 3 5 5 2 4
When added together, the numbers equal 19. The Average
of this is then taken to get: 3.8
In the RP, if the character does not find heat soon, they're
quite likely to experience a change.
Characters can purchase items to keep them warmer in the shop.
Each of these items is worth a certain amount of 'points' that can
be added on to help prevent your character from changing.
The Wolves of Mercy Falls
Winter operates under the 'rules' explained in Shiver when it comes to werewolves.[rand=50688123258055649527062410556929179993310718325475598199665161472]
1. The 'wolf virus' is spread through the bite. Saliva with direct contact to the blood stream.
2. After being bitten, the new wolf will experience flu like symptoms:
flu, chills, nausea and vomiting, fever, delirium. This is followed by uncontrolled shifts. The time varies from person to person, but is estimated to be a minimum of a week of flue symptoms before the shifting begins.
3. Once stabilized, the wolf will begin its first shift when introduced to a dramatic change in temperature. This usually occurs during late fall, but varies from person to person.
4. If a person has shifted to a wolf and back, their body is more likely to shift into a wolf's form until he or she has retained enough time in their human body to 'adjust' back.
5. Decrease in temperature brings about the shift. The shift can be held off by direct application of heat (through a bath tub, close to a furnace/fireplace/etc).
6. Wolves exposed to high temperatures of heat during the winter (such as desert heat or temperatures over 100) are more likely to be affected by drops in temperature.
7. Large bursts of adrenaline can trigger the change from a wolf back into human.
8. After shifting back and forth for a number of years, the resistance to cold diminishes and a person changes early in fall and late in spring. Eventually, the shifting stops and the person remains a wolf.
9. As a wolf, abstract concepts, such as love, hate, names, time, etc do not exist. Thought is animal like and simple. Wolves do not recognize spouses and friends unless they too, are wolves.
10. Wolves can communicate by sending 'images' through the mind. This is a very simple language and tends to vanish completely once a wolf becomes human, except under intense emotional situations or when a shift is close.
11. Wolves retain their human eyes once they shift, but are otherwise identical to normal wolves.
12. Wolves tend to have a loose 'pack' structure as humans. Generally, this structure is a ranking order based on dominance and tends to carry over once they shift.
